UPDATE: Whatever the cause of the outage, it appeared to be resolved within the hour. Twitter is back up and running and users can log in and tweet as normal.

Original story below…
Is Twitter down? Twitter is currently experiencing what appears to be a major outage, with users unable to log into the app or website.
At around 1 p.m. Eastern time in the United States, reports of disconnected users began to appear. Once disconnected, it was not possible to reconnect.
When attempting to enter their username and password, some users were greeted with an error message informing them: “Something went wrong, but don’t worry, it’s not is not your fault. Let’s try again.” When you press the refresh button, the same problem exists. The other option is to disconnect, but it is not possible to reconnect.
Strangely, it is possible to view individual tweets and profile pages and even search the site.
While accounts in the United States appear to be suffering from the problems, cursory polls of Britons suggest all is well on British shores. The Down Detector website in the US is currently showing hundreds of reports from users experiencing similar issues.
There has been no official confirmation of issues from @Twitter or @TwitterSupport pages at the time of writing.
The company is currently in flux amid a takeover bid by Tesla entrepreneur Elon Musk, but remains a publicly traded company until the deal is approved by shareholders. There is no guarantee that this will happen.
