Biscoff cookie machine Lotus Bakeries is preparing to launch an $84 million project to add a new manufacturing facility to its existing site in Mebane, North Carolina, according to a statement released Monday from the office of North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

The company’s headquarters in Belgium and the North Carolina facilities are the company’s sole production sites for Biscoff cookies. Opened in 2019, the Mebane site is Lotus Bakeries’ only U.S. manufacturing facility.

“We are excited to further expand our manufacturing footprint in North Carolina,” Margo Joris, general manager of Lotus Bakeries US, said in a statement. “This expansion project will significantly increase our capacity at our Mebane plant and we look forward to attracting qualified employees to join our exciting journey.”

171,000 square feet will be added to the site during the project which will house two additional production lines, warehouse operations and employee areas. 62 new jobs will be created through the investment, including operators, technicians and handling positions.

A $120,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund will support the company’s expansion. Expansion plans were first announced in mid-2021.
